Youtube has recently taken off and is constantly innovating its functions. This time, the news concerns YouTube Shorts, where you can now edit the previews exactly according to your wishes. This news will simplify the entire process of your creation.
How to do it?
As a first step, you can choose a frame for your preview that represents a moment from the video. You can subsequently edit this frame, for example by adding text, filters and emojis that will help your content stand out. Just click on the pencil icon, select the frame you want to use, and then just choose from the graphic elements.
Where will your previews appear?
These edited previews won't appear in the main Shorts feed, but you'll find them on search pages, hashtag pages, audio pages, and on your channel. This allows you to target your target group more precisely while maintaining the ability to reach a wider audience.
Why can't you just add completely custom Shorts previews like you can with regular YouTube clips or Instagram Reels? Well, according to YouTube, you don't really need it. While this would be a much-requested feature, YouTube says that Shorts clip thumbnails are not as important as regular video thumbnails because most users encounter Shorts clips within the Shorts channel, thus scrolling through the video view full screen, as opposed to tapping a smaller thumbnail to activate the Shorts clip.
Why are previews so important?
Your YouTube views have a huge influence on how your content is perceived and the attention it attracts. An attractive preview can significantly increase click-through rates and improve audience engagement.
The right preview can effectively communicate the topic and content of the video or you can use it to strengthen the originality of your channel. This means that if you have a great preview, the viewer recognizes that it is your video in the first second.

We have a hack for you!
You can add your own preview to YouTube Short by first creating it separately in the application that suits you best. This preview will then be added to the video for 1 second, or less, if the application in which you are editing the video allows it. You put the preview at the beginning of the video and you select it in the YouTube application when selecting the preview frame. This way you will have your preview without anyone noticing it in the video.
