It's no secret that you can make money by making videos on YouTube. All over the world, we see many cases of how the initial shooting of videos for fun has turned into a full-time job. And let's be honest, what's better than doing what you love and getting paid for it. In this article, we will introduce you to the principle of monetizing a YouTube channel or videos and go over the basics of monetization that every creator should master.
WHAT DOES MONETIZATION MEAN?
Monetization or monetization is the term used by YouTube for its official program that allows creators to earn money from videos. This means that YouTube creators earn a certain monetary share from ads shown before, during, or next to the video. However, the creator does not automatically receive the earnings. YouTube has strict rules that determine whether a video is suitable for monetization or not. The basic step to start earning money on YouTube is to become a member of the YouTube Partner Program.
HOW DO I BECOME A YPP MEMBER?
In order to monetize your videos, you must be part of the YouTube Partner Program and meet all its conditions. This program provides creators with expanded access to resources and features on YouTube, as well as better access to YouTube support. And of course, last but not least, it allows for the monetization of YouTube channels, i.e. making money. Are you wondering how to become a part of the YouTube Partner Program? These are the basic entry conditions that every creator must meet:
1. You must have more than 1000 subscribers.
2. You must have more than 4,000 valid watch hours of your videos in the last 12 months.
3. You must reside in a country or region where YPP is available.
4. You must comply with all monetization policies on the YouTube platform.
5. You must have a connected AdSense account.

Even if you meet all the above conditions, YouTube will not automatically add you to YPP, you must apply for membership. You can do this in your YouTube Studio.
1. Sign in to YouTube.
2. Click on your profile picture in the top right and go to YouTube Studio.
3. Click on the “Monetization” option in the left panel.
4. If you meet the entry conditions, click the “Get Started” button on the “Read the Partner Program Terms” tab.
5. After signing the terms, YouTube will mark this step with a green “Done” mark on the “Read the Partner Program Terms” tab and you can start monetizing your videos.
If you do not yet meet the 1,000 subscriber and 4,000 watch hours limit, you can set up an option in your YouTube Studio to request that YouTube send you a notification when you meet the specified limit. Thanks to this, you will not have to constantly monitor whether you have reached the limit, YouTube will notify you and you will be able to request monetization of your videos.

HOW CAN I MAKE MONEY ON YOUTUBE?
There are several ways to earn money on YouTube. The most well-known form of earning money on YouTube is revenue from in-video ads, but also revenue from paid memberships, super chats and super stickers, revenue from YouTube premium subscriptions or product shelves. Are you surprised by the number of ways to earn? Let's take a closer look at them.
ADVERTISING EARNINGS
The most well-known way to earn money on YouTube is advertising revenue, which you only get if you are a YPP member and your video is eligible for monetization. In simple terms, it works by showing an ad in your video and YouTube tracks how many times this ad is shown to viewers. Your earnings are then calculated according to the CPM (cost per 1000 impressions) metric and based on that, you will be credited with advertising revenue. The CPM value is different in each country, while in Slovakia this value ranges from 0.50-1€, abroad it can easily be several times higher.

Condition: To be able to earn from YouTube ads, you must be at least 18 years old or have a legal guardian older than 18 years old, have a YouTube channel connected to AdSense and create content in accordance with the guidelines for appropriate content.
EARNINGS FROM MEMBERSHIPS
You have certainly already encountered the option to pay for a membership with your favorite YouTube creators. You may have even purchased some. If you are a member of YPP, you are eligible to create YouTube Memberships. Memberships allow fans to support their favorite creators for a monthly fee, which gives them access to special benefits, such as exclusive members-only content. This means that if you decide to launch a membership option on your YouTube channel, you should create extra content for your members that is just for them.

Requirements: To create memberships for your YouTube channel, you must be at least 18 years old and have more than 1,000 subscribers.
LIVESTREAMS, SUPERCHATS, AND SUPERSTICKS
Livestreams are a common way for a YouTube channel to increase its earnings. In addition to classic one-time posts, viewers can also participate in a superchat.
If you don't know what a superchat is, they are paid comments in the chat during YouTube livestreams that are highlighted and pinned at the very top. The amount the viewer pays determines the color of the message and how long the message will be pinned in the chat. This is a great feature that is easy to use, improves the way you communicate during livestreams, and brings you earnings. If you decide to use this feature, don't forget to notify your viewers so they are informed about this feature and can use it during your next livestream.

Condition: In order to launch super chat and super stickers on your YT channel, you must be at least 18 years old and live in a country or region where super chat is available.
YOUTUBE PREMIUM EARNINGS
YouTube Premium is a paid membership that brings users various benefits such as watching videos without ads, the ability to download videos, access to YouTube Original movies and series, but also, for example, access to YouTube Music. This premium service benefits not only its users, but also YouTube creators. In practice, it looks like this: When YouTube Premium subscribers watch your content, you get a portion of their subscription.

Condition: You must create content that YouTube Premium subscribers will watch.
MERCH SHELF
The last but not least feature that you can use to earn money on YouTube is the merch shelf. It allows your fans to buy official merchandise that you present under your video. Unfortunately, this feature is not yet available in Slovakia, but we believe that this will change in the near future.

Condition: You must be at least 18 years old, approved for video monetization, must not violate Community Guidelines and must not create content intended for children.
YouTube is constantly working to bring new ways to monetize YouTube creators' content. The next step may be the monetization of YouTube Shorts, whose application should have reached the US in addition to India.
Thanks to multiple sources of income from YouTube, you as a creator will be less dependent on other income in the form of paid collaborations or other employmentand you will have a better opportunity to constantly work on yourself and bring your fans higher quality content. We believe that our new article was beneficial for you and if you would like to become a partner of Vidadu Network in addition to YPP, our doors are open and we look forward to possible cooperation.
