You probably know Matej well from the famous duo Zrebny & Frlajs, whose videos show that creating on YouTube can be fun and professional at the same time. Among their most famous videos, which you have surely seen, are Types of Doctors(29 million views), When You Invite a Friend Over (7.5 million views) and Types of People in the Toilet (3 million views). Matej has never hidden the fact that he is also interested in creating music, which we could see on the first song Zrebny & Frlajs – V POHODE feat. Ronie or Zrebný & Frlajs – LOVEIN feat. Dominika Mirgová, Šorty. He himself claims that music is his passion, which is why he decided to start his own channel MATT Zrebny, where you can already listen to his first solo Story. What is the story behind this song and his musical career? We asked Matej.
Hi Matej, how long have you wanted to release your own song? How does it feel when you finally did it?
“For a long time, I remember that back in high school I had a dream that I would one day record something in a studio and release something that would be really good. The first time it came true for me was when Lukáš and I released the first version of Zrebny & Frlajs – V POHODE feat. Ronie. That was actually the first thing we recorded in a studio and it was something I had wanted to do for a very long time. I've basically been leaning towards this the whole time and I really enjoy music, I have it in me somehow, and that's why more of those songs were created.”
What did you enjoy most and least about the whole process of creating the song Story?
"I didn't want to be the type of artist who could have an entire song made on the spot, so I was involved in every part of the process. I can't clearly determine what I enjoyed the most and the least, I enjoy the whole process, because it's a very pleasant time spent for me and I feel fulfilled at that time.
In addition to the song Story, a brand new YouTube channel MATT Zrebný was created. Can we expect more music creation?
"You can definitely expect more music and I will release it every month, which means that a new song will be released every month. And basically I already have two more songs finished and I'm currently going to shoot clips for them and then I'll jump straight into recording brand new songs."
What do you want to say to people with your music?
"I would like to show people my other side through music, which is more serious and not just fun and humor. So music actually gives me the space to find balance and helps me show people my true self. Through songs, I also want to address common things in the lives of young people, in which they can find themselves and find out that they are not alone."
What will happen to the Zrebny & Frlajs YouTube channel? Will you continue to create videos?
“We will definitely continue with the creation of the YouTube channel Zrebny & Frlajs, the fact that I will be making music will not affect it in any way. I certainly would not want to throw the years of work on the channel Zrebny & Frlajs into the trash, because it was really exhausting. On the contrary, music motivates me and gives me energy to focus on other things.”
What do you enjoy more, creating music or producing videos?
“That’s very hard to say, because people always enjoy something that’s new and unknown more. Because when we experience something for the first time, it really excites us. Currently, music is very fulfilling to me, but I don’t forget about production either, because it’s still something special to me and I want to focus on both. I feel like there are times when a person is better at one thing than the other, but I definitely want to focus on music and production. I simply like to create content for people that can entertain them, or they can take something away from the videos, but most of all, I want to spread joy through my creation.”
What can your followers look forward to? What are your immediate plans?
“I will want to release a new song and also a video on the Zrebny & Frlajs channel every month and create, create a lot. I mainly want to make content for people and I hope that they will enjoy and have fun as much as I do. If you enjoy it, join and if not, you have many other opportunities.”
Matej says: “Everything comes when you are ready.” And we can’t agree more. We would only add that if you do something that you really enjoy, you can see and feel it. We are incredibly happy to see our partners grow, accept challenges and fulfill their dreams. We are very curious about the other songs that MATT Zrebny will bring to the Slovak scene and we are keeping our fingers crossed for him.
